Nerikomi - Tuesday PM - 7-930pm
This is a eight week handbuilding class focusing on using colored clay and slabs to make forms with patterning resulting from the colored clay. Nerikomi is the Japanese term for working with colored clay but there are also other similar methods including agateware, murrini, and neriage. Experience working with clay is required.
We will be making our own colored clay by mixing mason stain directly into clay and porcelain slip. Techniques covered: Caning, Extruder, faux wood, Ombre and many more. We will look at the artwork of Cody Hoyt, Risa Nishimori, Matsui Koyo, Brenda Holzki, Matsui Kotsei, Mollie Bosworth, and Naomi Lindenfeld.
