Rules

All students must adhere to the following rules and procedures.

Clean up your workstation and any area you have used after you are done.  This includes the area surrounding your workstation such as the floor if carved, trimmed, or wet clay has fallen. This also includes any equipment and tools you have gotten clay or slip on such as the extruder and slab roller.

Do not use equipment without being trained by your teacher.

Students must clean up before the end of class and before the end of open studio ready to leave by 6:30pm.

Do not leave personal items out on the studio tables, use the cubbies for day storage.

Do not store bats under plastic over a long period of time, they will mold.  When work is dry enough to safely move, remove the work from the bat or wrap the work but not the bat.

Do not scrape or sand bone dry work in the studio as it creates hazardous dust. Wet sanding is ok. Any dry sanding must be done outside of the studio with the doors and windows shut.

Please do not sweep, use a damp sponge to clean up debris.

The studio is a peaceful place.   Keep your conversations low to avoid disturbing others.

Treat everyone with respect.  Do not discriminate or target people for any reason. Do not sexually harass anyone.

No smoking is allowed at Mouse including on the sidewalks in front of the building.

Do not touch anything on a member’s shelf or on a class shelf that you are not enrolled in.

Students should only use the wheels and table in the main front area.  Members should use the wheels in the rear when classes are in session.

Rules Specifically related to Clay:

Clay buckets should always have the lid on when not being used to obtain clay.

Be responsible for the clay that you take out of the bucket. Wedge all clay up when you are done and return it to the bucket before leaving the studio.  If your clay is too wet to wedge, combine it with wedgeable clay.

Only dry bits and throwing water/slurry should go into the reclaim, all clay that is over hydrated should go on the small plaster boards.  If clay is a bit too dry to wedge, spray it with a water bottle before wedging.

Clean the wedging table after each use. Do not leave any clay on the wedging tables, your collapsed pots should go on the small plaster boards near the sink.

Be mindful of contaminants, clay with colored slips and underglazes should not be put into the reclaim.  Never throw out clay, it can be recycled in the contaminated bucket.

Students who buy specialty clays are responsible for reclaiming their own clays and should not wedge on the regular boards.  Students should use the small boards labeled by clay type to wedge and reclaim.

Greenware left on class shelves upstairs for more than a week after your class has ended will be recycled.

Rules Specifically related to Glazes:

Glaze buckets should remain covered when not in use.
Do not open multiple buckets at the same time, splashes and drips from one glaze can contaminate another.

Please be careful when moving glaze buckets. If a wheel is locked and its pulled from the top, the bucket can tip over. Use two hands and move slowly and carefully.

Glaze should not be applied thicker than a 2-3 second dip (maximum) and no more than two glazes should be used on a single piece unless the student/member has experience or tested the combination out themselves.

No glazing the bottom of work.

Rules Specifically related to Firings:

Work that is ready to be bisque fired needs to have the student or members name and a description of their class or membership type.  One name tag is fine for multiple pieces.

Do not touch work in the basement that is not yours.

Work left at the studio for more than two weeks after the end of the class will be discarded.  This includes both bisque and glaze work.

Firing fees are calculated at $0.04 per cubic inch and there is a 2” and $1 minimum.

Glazed work that is deemed dangerous to fire for any reason may be rejected from firing.
